| A piece of work created by an artist that is the artist’s idea and creation. |
| The first impressions (A/P) printed so that the artist may make adjustments before the edition is printed. These are in addition to the standard edition is kept by the artist. These can be of to 10% of the edition. |
| A small drawing made by the artist in the border or margin of his/her print. Remarqued-limited edition usually have added value. |
| The issue of something collectible, such as prints, which are limited to a certain quantity of numbered copies. The first number indicates the number of the piece; the second number indicates the total quantity in the edition, e.g. 246/500. Your piece is number 246 and the total number in the edition is 500. The plate used for printing the limited edition is defaced or “cancelled” to ensure that it is not used again. |
| Open edition prints are created in any quantity or size. They may be signed by the artist but never numbered. |
| Reproductions known as Giclée(pronounced Gee Clay) were originally developed in 1989. This is a plateless method of fine art printing. Images are digitally scanned and stored in the computer. It provides incredible detail and the color results are brilliant. |
| A method of printing using hand cut or photographically prepared stencil attached to silk or polyester fabric through which color is forced. Also referred to, as silkscreen or screen print. |
| This is a commercial print that is made by a photomechanical process. The image is drawn on litho – limestone or exposed to a light-sensitive litho plate. The colors are hand pulled, resulting in a variation of tone from print to print. |

| The oldest existing paintings found in Egypt were watercolors. Watercolor refers to all pigments mixed with water rather than oil. Watercolor is a comparatively perishable medium; it is vulnerable to sunlight, dust and contact with glass surfaces. |
